As many of my constituents will know, I have long been interested in ensuring the Government helps asylum seekers fleeing from war and persecution across the globe.
I was therefore pleased that the Prime Minister and his Government have agreed upon a new strategy to tackle channel crossings and to protect those who could otherwise be vulnerable to human traffickers. Under the new approach the UK will work cooperatively with our European partners to tackle the issue.
In a statement in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister outlined further details about this approach. I had the opportunity to question him on this matter, and I was glad to hear how we are working with partners such as the Albanian government to free up space for those seeking asylum.
