I am pleased to share that residents in Hillingdon will benefit from the Government’s £25 million Natural Flood Management programme, which aims to use natural processes to reduce the risk of flooding.
Pinn Meadows in Ruislip will receive 250,000 of the funding to increase flood resilience, which will be implemented by Hillingdon Council. I know this will be welcomed both by residents living nearby and users of the meadows, who will be aware of some of the issues caused by flooding.
In terms of the work that will be carried out, the project will aim to store flood water away from properties by creating swales near the Pinn Brook and Elma’s Ditch. This will be re-naturalised with widening and meanders, increasing its capacity to store flood water. Further, this will work in combination with existing leaky barriers upstream in Park Wood to slow flows and store flood water and, in turn, will reduce the chance and impact of flooding from the River Pinn.
I welcome this funding as a way to bolster floor resilience and shield communities, all whilst boosting biodiversity, restoring habitats and protecting the environment for future generations.
