Since taking power almost 100 days ago, Labour has reneged on the previous Government's new hospital programme (NHP), which will have seen Hillingdon Hospital rebuilt to the benefit of residents. Work has already started at the site and temporary facilities set up to ensure the continuation of care for patients.
The Chancellor has been unable to confirm that funding is still available and the Health Secretary has requested an urgent internal review of all hospitals in the NHP, meaning that the future of the new Hillingdon Hospital remains uncertain. MPs of impacted constituencies have been assured the opportunity to discuss this with the Health Secretary, though the invitation has not yet been extended to my office.
In the interim, I caught up with Jason Seez from the Hillingdon Hospital redevelopment team. It was useful to hear his thoughts and concerns ahead of the Autumn Statement later this month.
I will continue to follow developments closely and ensure the case is made for residents served by the hospital.
