I am delighted that the Queen’s Head in Pinner has been awarded the British Institute of Innkeeping’s Sustainability Champion Award, highlighting the excellent work of a local business in working towards a more sustainable future. The Queen’s Head has led the way by installing charging points for electric cars on-site and having dedicated cycle parking to encourage customers to travel to the venue in a more eco-friendly way. This is also an example of the strength of our local high streets, with investment a continuous feature as new ventures open. I hope readers will join me in congratulating Sean and the team on their achievement.
On the subject of home-grown success, I am aware that Harrow Council is considering plans to commemorate Sir Elton John locally. Readers will be aware that the singer grew up in Pinner, attending Pinner Wood, Reddiford and Pinner County Grammar schools. Having gone on to achieve global success, this would be a fantastic way to honour and celebrate Sir Elton’s roots. I hope to hear more about those plans in the near future.
Turning to other local matters, I recognise concerns that have been raised with me about the future of Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital, as work appears to have come to a stop. I have spoken with the NHS Development Trust, and I understand that amendments to the original planning application have been proposed and are currently awaiting approval from the council. These changes have arisen from findings during the work undertaken to prepare the building for refurbishment. I would like to assure residents that these are material amendments and will not affect the overall use of the health centre or accommodation.
Finally, my local surgeries continue in venues around the constituency. Residents who would like to make an appointment should get in touch via the contact details below. I also circulate a monthly newsletter, which you can sign up to on my website.
