This morning, I visited Buckingham Prep School in Pinner. This has since become part of my constituency following the boundary changes in July.
As I was not able to meet with Year 6 pupils on their recent visit to Westminster, I was pleased to be able to hear from them this morning. It was great to see some budding politicians amongst the group, with a clear desire to help people. The children also raised some issues closer to home, such as protecting local parks and greenspaces, as well as speeding on roads around the school. They shared some good ideas to help reduce this, which I will pass on to the local councillors to look into.
I also had a useful chat with Headteacher Michael Doyle. As one of six independent schools in the constituency, he raised concerns about the introduction of Labour’s tax on education, a policy that will have a damaging impact on independent schools without a justifiable benefit to the state sector. This is something I am continuing to scrutinise alongside colleagues in Westminster.
I am grateful to all for their warm welcome, and I look forward to visiting again in the future.
